Librarian - St Constantine's International School

Job Summary

SCIS is currently looking to hire a qualified academic Librarian for our secondary school , responsible for acquiring, organizing, managing and distributing library resources and ensuring that library provision meets the needs of all its users.

  • Minimum Qualification: Bachelor
  • Experience Level: Mid level
  • Experience Length: 1 year

This is a people-focused role, requiring you to manage learning resources while keeping the library users' needs in mind. Duties may vary, but typically will include:
  • selecting, developing, cataloguing and classifying library resources
  • developing and maximizing IT facilities in and for the library
  • using library systems and specialist computer applications
  • assisting readers to use computer equipment, conduct literature searches etc
  • Managing classes and individuals who are studying in the library
  • Taking library lessons
  • answering student enquiries
  • liaising with Head of Secondary, departmental academic staff, external organizations and suppliers
  • ensuring that library services meet the needs of all users
  • managing the library budget and resources
  • supporting independent research and learning
  • promoting the library's resources to users
  • Helping with the School’s Electives programme

Qualifications and training required

You are eligible to apply with any degree, but if your first qualification isn't related to information management you will need a relevant postgraduate qualification for librarianship.

Key skills for academic librarians

We seek a confident and competent individual with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Other key skills you will have include:

  • strong IT skills and familiarity with the use of databases and the internet
  • teamworking and management skills
  • assessment of resources and library users' needs
  • presentation and verbal communication skills
  • subject-specific knowledge or expertise in a particular function, for example ICT resources or resource ordering
